There is much controversy today focused on the nations of the Middle East, especially the land of Israel. We know that modern Israel is an anomaly of history. Being driven from their land two thousand years ago, then following two world wars suddenly restored as a nation. The question before us is quite simple, but extremely profound with supernatural and eternal implications. Was Israel’s restoration as a nation on May 14, 1948, a historical anomaly or was God directing human affairs to fulfill his ancient promises? In this series of articles, I will attempt to develop a Biblical argument for Israel’s right to the land setting the stage for messiahs coming kingdom.
We live in an age of convergence; the battle between good and evil, light and darkness, yes even Satan and God is reaching a climax. At times it almost feels tangible. Ancient promises are being fulfilled, ancient enemies are resurfacing and that ancient land is ground zero for what is happening. Allow me to highlight two of those ancient promises.
And I will bring again the captivity of my people of Israel, and they shall build the waste cities, and inhabit them; and they shall plant vineyards and drink the wine thereof; they shall also make gardens and eat the fruit of them. Isaiah 66:8-10
As the church we normally think of the kingdom of God in spiritual terms (Paul said the kingdom is within us) but is that all there is to it. Do we as the church carry the spiritual reality and Israel is coming into the physical reality? That is the question I’d like you to consider as we move forward.
There is much confusion and outright deception today regarding the Jews and their ancestral homeland. What do we do with the land of Israel, the Gaza Strip and the Jewish people; what about the Palestinian claims and the animosity between Israel and her neighbors in the region? Antisemitism is more mainstream than we have seen in decades. Students of Bible prophecy are not surprised by these developments because the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob told us that in the latter days Jerusalem will be a heavy stone for all peoples.
